So I'm trying to change the code in minecraft's PlayerController class to make currentBlock and isHittingBlock public, but Intellij just tells me that the file is just read only. How do I go about changing this, as I know it should be possible as I have seen it in other mods source code. Thanks

You're not supposed to edit vanilla source files.

Use reflection.

Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable.  If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME.  Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice.

Yes, a library/dependency file is read only. Editing a single instance of a file would not make any difference in other version of that file. If you wanted to do that, use reflection within your code. However, why would you need to edit the client side only for what block the player is hitting?

Since Minecraft code is obfuscated, use ObfuscatedReflectionHelper.
