Posted May 26, 20205 yr hello, a new modder here. So i've been in the process of making my first mod, when i hit a block. I can't figure out how to detect what a player is holding in their hand. I'm trying to make it so that when the player crouches and they are holding a sword in their hand they get strength and slowness. I've already tried to find an answer by looking it up on google, no luck.
May 26, 20205 yr Override Item#onUpdate (which is called every tick if an instance of the item is in the player's inventory) and check if the isSelected parameter is true (which will be true if the player is holding the item). If true, the check if the player is crouching (PlayerEntity#isSneaking or something) and apply your effects. Some tips: Spoiler Modder Support: Spoiler 1. Do not follow tutorials on YouTube, especially TechnoVision (previously called Loremaster) and HarryTalks, due to their promotion of bad practice and usage of outdated code. 2. Always post your code. 3. Never copy and paste code. You won't learn anything from doing that. 4. Quote Programming via Eclipse's hotfixes will get you nowhere 5. Learn to use your IDE, especially the debugger. 6. Quote The "picture that's worth 1000 words" only works if there's an obvious problem or a freehand red circle around it. Support & Bug Reports: Spoiler 1. Read the EAQ before asking for help. Remember to provide the appropriate log(s). 2. Versions below 1.11 are no longer supported due to their age. Update to a modern version of Minecraft to receive support.
May 26, 20205 yr We do not provide copy-paste code on this forum. Which part do you not understand? If you want the effect to occur on a vanilla item (as opposed to a custom item added by your mod), subscribe to PlayerTickEvent and check for the item in hand instead. May 27, 20205 yr Are you new to modding, or new to Java? Overriding a method is very basic Java/OOP. If you are new to Java, then unless you are well versed in a similar language, you will have a Bad Time trying to mod. If this is the case, I would strongly advise looking up learning java on google, and start small.
