Hi all,

I am running into a rendering issue with forge. I am currently using forge version 31.2.0 however I have also tried 31.2.21 and 31.2.20.

To give more context, when I walk around the world, everything is perfectly fine, no rendering issues or fps issues at all. When I make some sort of update by placing or breaking a block, however, these weird rendering glitches occur (redstone of any sort does not seem to create these issues however). The imgur post shows some of the worst of it: most times it make the grass (not the grass block, just the grass, tall grass, and other plants) invisible. The rendering glitches also seem to be contained within the chunk for the most part, but it can vary. It only occurs within a certain radius of the placed or broken block at the very least.

Edit: Additionally, after some random amount of time (a few seconds to a minute) everything goes back to normal.

As I have said before, I tried some different versions of Forge, but I have also tried deleting and reinstalling vanilla 1.15.2 (this rendering glitch does not happen in vanilla). I have tried updating Java, then reinstalling Forge. None of this seems to work.

I have no other mods installed, however when I install Optifine (pre24, pre26, and pre27) this glitch is fixed. I do not want to have to use Optifine, however, as Immersive Engineering does not play well with it, and so I will be dealing with graphical issues regardless. Any ideas on what else I should do to fix this?

Please read the Logs section of my signature below and provide the appropriate log in the appropriate manner.

This is my Forum Signature, I am currently attempting to transform it into a small guide for fixing easier issues using spoiler blocks to keep things tidy.

As the most common issue I feel I should put this outside the main bulk:

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.

For players asking for assistance with Forge please expand the spoiler below and read the appropriate section(s) in its/their entirety.

Can you provide a zip of the world save and your hardware specs?

Absolutely,

Here is a link to a Google Drive with the zipped world save - let me know if there is another way you would rather me share it.

And my specs: I am running a Ryzen 5 3600 stock and OC a GTX 1070 with afterburner. I have 16 GB of ram, and I dedicate 5 or 6 GB of it to MC normally.

I'm not seeing the issue, I'm wondering if it's an issue with your graphics drivers

Alright, I can look into it later today. The only reason why I would think it is not is because I encounter no issues with graphics in any other game and so long as Forge is not installed or Optifine is installed with Forge. I have never modded minecraft or done anything in the way of game development, but does Forge use some way to deal with rendering that is not common in other titles? I only ask because, again, I am only getting issues with Forge and it seems to be directly linked to chunks and block updates.

Regardless, I will still update them today to just double check and I will get back. If that does not fix it, however, no worries. I will probably just run Optifine and hope they release a version that is compatible with IE sometime in the future.

Well, I updated drivers and check on all the versions of Forge previously mentioned and no dice. The good news is that I decided to just reinstall the MC launcher, deleted my .minecraft and that seemed to do the trick. I'm guessing the actual culprit this whole time was a prerelease version of optifine somehow corrupting my launcher...not really sure. Either way, thanks for all the help.

    • Hello all. I'm currently grappling with the updateShape method in a custom class extending Block.  My code currently looks like this: The conditionals in CheckState are there to switch blockstate properties, which is working fine, as it functions correctly every time in getStateForPlacement.  The problem I'm running into is that when I update a state, the blocks seem to call CheckState with the position of the block which was changed updated last.  If I build a wall I can see the same change propagate across. My question thus is this: is updateShape sending its return to the neighbouring block?  Is each block not independently executing the updateShape method, thus inserting its own current position?  The first statement appears to be true, and the second false (each block is not independently executing the method). I have tried to fix this by saving the block's own position to a variable myPos at inception, and then feeding this in as CheckState(myPos) but this causes a worse outcome, where all blocks take the update of the first modified block, rather than just their neighbour.  This raises more questions than it answers, obviously: how is a different instance's variable propagating here?  I also tried changing it so that CheckState did not take a BlockPos, but had myPos built into the body - same problem. I have previously looked at neighbourUpdate and onNeighbourUpdate, but could not find a way to get this to work at all.  One post on here about updatePostPlacement and other methods has proven itself long superceded.  All other sources on the net seem to be out of date. Many thanks in advance for any help you might offer me, it's been several days now of trying to get this work and several weeks of generally trying to get round this roadblock.  - Sandermall
    • sorry, I might be stupid, but how do I open it? because the only options I have are too X out, copy it, which doesn't work and send crash report, which doesn't show it to me, also, sorry for taking so long.
    • Can you reproduce this with version 55.0.21? A whole lot of plant placement issues were just fixed in this PR.
    • Necro'ing that thread to ask if you found a solution ? I'm encountering the same crash on loading the world. I created the world in Creative to test my MP, went into survival to test combat, died, crashed on respawn and since then crash on loading the world. Deactivating Oculus isn't fixing it either, and I don't have Optifine (Twilight forest is incompatible)
