[1.8.9] How do I make translucent text?

Hi, this is my first question on this forum so I apologize if it doesn't meet the forum rules.

 

I am trying to make a mod that renders some text that is translucent, but after some googling the closest thing I could find was this thread, which I couldn't figure out how to use. Would anyone have some example code of translucent text, or be able to explain how I would want to code it?
