Do you mean that the installer tries to open in the paint application? If so, then you may need to run Jarfix.

I believe extract is a relic. I would recommend using the CurseForge launcher instead.

You should be creating projects within your user space and not within the root files. Otherwise, you could be getting permission issues.

The debug.log link no longer exists. You need to add more memory to the JVM which launches the game. You can search how to do this on the internet.

Please provide the debug.log from the logs folder within the game directory via a gist or pastebin.

What version of Forge are you using, and please show your debug.log.

You would have to calculate the output given the input and the catalyst to the anvil for every item if you wanted to use the event in the capacity you described previously.
