Forge installs itself as a version of Minecraft. Make a new Profile/Installation and select Forge from the version dropdown. (Note: For some reason Forge 1.12.2 gets booted to the bottom of the list.)

You haven't provided any logs but my first guess would be that you're crossing sides

Try using the single (at this time) version of Optifine that's listed as compatible with a specific version of Forge. (It's a preview version)

Sounds like you unzipped it instead of running it, I'm guessing you have WinRar and the jar showed up with that icon?

According to this crash report you still have astral sorcery installed. If you uninstalled it please provide the debug.log from the run without it.

Why can you not update any higher?
