My armor is purple and black:

my armor textures are in src/main/recources/assets/goodmod/textures/models/armor/

 

they are named good_layer_1.png and good_layer_2.png 

Your not setting the namspace to your mod id in the ResourceLocation of the texture, minecraft tries to load the textures from the minecraft namespace
