[1.7] Getting Texture from Block and put it on an other Block.

Hello There,

I am very new to modding. I am having a problem with one of my Items.

When i click on the ground with it, it switches the block i am looking at with a block i made.

Now the Problem is how to get the Texture of the block that was there and apply it to my own Block, so that my Block looks like the Block that was there before.

I already now hot to get which block was there before, but i cant figure out how to know which texture it uses and how to apply the new texture to my Block.

Is that even possible?

Would be nice if someone could answer that.

You would need a TileEntity, saving the block instance which should be shown in there and in your blocks getBlockTexture method, grab the TileEntity, get the block from it and get the Icon from this block via blockInstance.getIcon()

This thread makes me sad because people just post copy-paste-ready code when it's obvious that the OP has little to no programming experience. This is not how learning works.

I don't know which Block/Item should be a TileEntity.

Should the item be it? Because i right click with it? Or the Block that that will be on the Position of the Block i replace?

Also i dont know how to save the blocks instance. I searched a bit but cant find anything that would help me.

Blocks do not have instances in the world.  They're simply a giant array of integers (and associated metadata).  In order to have more complex behavior than "I am block ID 5!" you need a TileEntity.

Chests, furnaces, brewing stands, and so on are all tile entity blocks.

Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable.  If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME.  Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice.

Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked.

DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given.

BlockRedTileEntity.class:

public class BlockRedTileEntity extends TileEntity{

public static Block BlockStored;

public boolean onBlockActivated(World world, int xPos, int yPos, int zPos, EntityPlayer player, int par6, float par7, float par8, float par9){

	if(!world.isRemote){
		System.out.println("TileEntity onBlockActivated: " + world.getTileEntity(xPos, yPos, zPos));
		if(player.getCurrentEquippedItem() != null){
			//System.out.println("Hand nicht leer");
			if(player.getCurrentEquippedItem().getItem() == new ItemStack(Blocks.grass).getItem()){
				System.out.println("Grass");
				BlockStored = Blocks.grass;
			}
		}
	}

	return true;
}

BlockRed.class:

public class BlockRed extends BlockContainer {

public BlockRed() {
	super(Material.ground);
	this.setBlockTextureName(BlockRedTileEntity.BlockStored.getBlockTextureFromSide(0).toString());
}

I hope you can help me.

1. I know what static means, but if i have it not static the line

this.setBlockTextureName(BlockRedTileEntity.BlockStored.getBlockTextureFromSide(0).toString());

is not working, because it needs a static reference.

2. If i right click the Block it works, so i think that shoudl be right

3. Thats not my Problem atm. i first want to try to get it to work, so that it changes textures. But that is not working.

Saving and Loading i want to do later.

    • When I first heard about Bitcoin back in 2018, I was skeptical. The idea of a decentralized, digital currency seemed too good to be true. But I was intrigued as I learned more about the technology behind it and its potential. I started small, investing just a few hundred dollars, dipping my toes into the cryptocurrency waters. At first, it was exhilarating to watch the value of my investment grow exponentially. I felt like I was part of the future, an early adopter of this revolutionary new asset. But that euphoria was short-lived. One day, I logged into my digital wallet only to find it empty - my Bitcoin had vanished without a trace. It turned out that the online exchange I had trusted had been hacked, and my funds were stolen. I was devastated, both financially and emotionally. All the potential I had seen in Bitcoin was tainted by the harsh reality that with decentralization came a lack of regulation and oversight. My hard-earned money was gone, lost to the ether of the digital world. This experience taught me a painful lesson about the price of trust in the uncharted territory of cryptocurrency. While the technology holds incredible promise, the risks can be catastrophic if you don't approach it with extreme caution. My Bitcoin investment gamble had failed, and I was left to pick up the pieces, wiser but poorer for having placed my faith in the wrong hands. My sincere appreciation goes to MUYERN TRUST HACKER. • You could try posting a log (if there is no log at all, it may be the launcher you are using, the FAQ may have info on how to enable the log) as described in the FAQ, however this will probably need to be reported to/remedied by the mod author.
    • So me and a couple of friends are playing with a shitpost mod pack and one of the mods in the pack is corail tombstone and for some reason there is a problem with it, where on death to fire the player will get kicked out of the server and the tombstone will not spawn basically deleting an entire inventory, it doesn't matter what type of fire it is, whether it's from vanilla fire/lava, or from modded fire like ice&fire/lycanites and it's common enough to where everyone on the server has experienced at least once or twice and it doesn't give any crash log. a solution to this would be much appreciated thank you!
    • It is 1.12.2 - I have no idea if there is a 1.12 pack
