Hello!

I was wondering how I would make a block powered with redstone glow, to help out redstoners.

I'm quite new to Forge, but have all the basics down, and am ready to get in the deep stuff. :3

Thanks,

Phase

Edit: By glow, I tint the block's texture red. (No idea why I said glow :P)

Define 'glow'?

Giving off light / changing the texture brightness / giving off particles / ...

Make the block's texture tint red a little, like in AcTennis' video about his resourcepack:

So, u want to do that programmatically or with a resourcepack? For custom blocks or vanilla blocks?

I dont know how that guy in the vid did it, dont think thats possible.

Edit: look at the comments: "All the texture pack does is retexture redstone lamps, all of you have been fooled"

You could do this two ways:

1. Just make a separate texture for the "active" block and use something like Photoshop or GIMP to tint the normal texture red.

2. As for programmatically, I have no idea how you would do this, sorry.

Don't make mods if you don't know Java.

I would look at the BlockVine class. From a quick glance, it seems to programmatically tint the vine colors based on biome. Of specific interest would probably be the getBlockColor(), getRenderColor(), and colorMultiplier() methods.

I want to do that with all blocks, like the pack should do.

You will need to learn Java ASM.  Resource packs cannot and will not do what you are trying to do.

Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable.  If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME.  Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice.

Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked.

DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given.

all resource packs do is, they contain all the items blocks gui's.. -textures

for the redstone lamp this is "redstone_lamp_on" and "redstone_lamp_off", eg dirt only has "dirt".

cuz its not ment to have a diffrent texture based on its powerd or not:

Soooo, you cant achieve what u want with only a resource pack.
