[SOLVED] Forge 6.3.0.372 / Minecraft 1.4.4 -> Black screen on startup

Hello everyone,

I'm being unsucessfull trying to make latest Forge run on a fresh install of Minecraft. It starts, Forge windows appears, downloads the libraries (or verifies them), then dissapears and then it's only black screen of Minecraft.

It is first and only mod I'm trying, while having the fresh minecraft.jar backed up (I actually already tried redownloading it too, it is working all fine until I try to insert Forge into it).

I followed the Install instructions on wiki (copying all forge files into the minecraft.jar and then deleting meta-inf folder), nothing else. I did it same as on Minecraft 1.4.2 but now I'm just getting this blackscreen, it was working before.

I also tried updating LWJGL to latest 2.8.5, no change.

I'm using Java 1.7.0_10-ea-b14 and Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit.

For the testing purposes I tried fresh install + several other mods (Optifine, Rei's Minimap) without Forge and it is working alright.

There is nothing in my crash-reports folder, and here is the Forge log:

Use Forge #355.

There's an EAQ for a reason. Read it!

Just a small update:

I also tried it on different computer with WinXP Pro 32bit and Java 7 U9 and I'm getting this black screen again.

Starting to think that I'm an idiot because I see no one else with this problem using this version : /

Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide to you or anything I can test to try to resolve this issue.

Thank you.

Ya, happened to me before. Try deleting all your MC files and reinstalling minecraft.

Well, I backed up and completely removed the .minecraft folder, fresh install of 1.4.4, re-downloaded Forge 6.3.0.372 a copied it's files into the root of minecraft.jar, then deleted the meta-inf folder.

I also completely uninstalled Java and installed fresh stable J7U9 instead of dev version.

What else could be possibly wrong?

You need to give us the ForgeModLoader-client-0.log so that we can help you.

This thread makes me sad because people just post copy-paste-ready code when it's obvious that the OP has little to no programming experience. This is not how learning works.

In this kind of issue there is no ForgeModLoader-client-0 log.

Can you launch WITHOUT forge?

Hey there, OP! I was JUST having this exact issue, and I managed to fix it a few minutes ago. It turns out I did something stupid, so maybe try this to see if you have the same problem;

Even after Force Updating for a fresh jar, the contents of your mod folder remain untouched. If there's anything in it, go ahead and take that stuff out before trying to launch again. I had a 1.4.2 version of MatMos and Chococraft in there and that's what was giving me the black screen.

The issue might be that you're trying to get Forge to work before starting on your other mods. That's a good idea but if your other mods are still lurking around they're going to break it!

Good luck!

What kind of issue do you see?

All I can see that the issue is when he's installing Forge, so there must be this file in his .minecraft folder, because it is always created when Forge is installed, even if it crashes.

And yes, he stated that it's running just fine w/o Forge:

For the testing purposes I tried fresh install + several other mods (Optifine, Rei's Minimap) without Forge and it is working alright.

Hello guys, thank you for replies, let me answer.

You need to give us the ForgeModLoader-client-0.log so that we can help you.

It's right in my first post.

Can you launch WITHOUT forge?

Yes, without Forge it works fine, be it clean install or with other mods like Optifine.

If there's anything in it, go ahead and take that stuff out before trying to launch again.

As I stated earlier today, I completely deleted my .minecraft folder and redownloaded fresh copy of both Minecraft and Forge.

Then unfortunately you'll have to wait it out. It works for me. Check your hard disk for errors as well.

Well, I guess I could run a chkdsk, but not only I tried it on different computer, I also tried launching it from different harddrive using custom .bat file. That would have to be incredible luck to have all 3 drives failing :)

What seems more likely to me that there is some piece of software or specific configuration that is same on both computers and is causing this issue. Any ideas?

So that's the whole FML log file? Well then :-\

Did you try to use a custom launcher like MultiMC?

Yep, all of the logs are exactly same.

I did not try any of the unofficial launchers and to be honest I don't like the idea of typing my user credentials to some 3rd party launcher.

Problem solved!

It was being caused by Comodo Defense+ module, which is part of Comodo Firewall, which is installed on both of the computers.

I have no idea what exactly is a problem, but I've added whole /bin folder to the list of Trusthful files and now it is working as intended.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help me.
