I am trying to make farmland not require water.

The idea is if you rightclick a dirt block with hoe it becomes tilled. I want to cancel any update on the tilled soil so it doesn't revert to dirt if no water is present.

Is there an event that gets called when a block changes states? Is there another way recommended if no event exist?

I want to do this for minecraft 1.7.10

Well you can either replace the farmland block with your own instance that doesn't need water with a substitution alias, or you can do the same with a substitution alias for the hoe so that it places a new instance of the farmland block

I think its my java of the variables.

Above is your best shot (unless I am missing something).

If you would want to dig around have a look at:

BlockFarmland#updateTick

You could maybe find some place you could hook into, but I don't think there is one, thus - replacing is best shot.

Other way would be with ASM - simply inser literally ONE boolean line in BlockFarmland#updateTick that would return method if your condition is true (e.g set by config).

1.7.10 is no longer supported by forge, you are on your own.

I think that would also cause farmland to never get wet either.
