Hello everyone!

I've been trying to figure out how to register and render a new mob. The method EntityRegistry.registerModEntity() seems to be okay, but I'm not sure how to get the id for it. I would like to use the one that gives a spawn egg as well.

I know the method findGlobalUniqueEntityId() is depreciated, and that I should initialize the id to 0 and just increment it in the method call.

I'm just not sure where to initialize it so that it works for all entities and not just the ones I create.

Should I initialize it in one of the mob classes or just in the client proxy? Or somewhere else entirely?

Thank you so much!

I'm not sure how much of it you want, but here is the line in case anything is obviously wrong with it.

I'm setting the mob id like this

public int mobID = -1;

in the common proxy.

This is in the init function in the client proxy.

EntityRegistry.registerModEntity(EntityGiantLizard.class, "EntityGiantLizard", ++mobID, EntityRegistry.instance(), 80, 3, false, 0x1f8e35, 0x156325);

I really appreciate the help, as I don't really have any idea what I'm doing yet. I hope I'm not annoying anyone.

No you need a mod instance

@Instance
Public YourMod instance;

Forge will populate that for you so don't instantiate it.

Use that instead of EntityRegistry.instance();

I think its my java of the variables.

Also is it really that difficult to manually assign an entity ID value?  You have to edit every one of those other parameters...

Well, only the first and last two parameters, in most cases, since the middle bunch are usually the same for similar types of entities. Just one less value to edit, which is always nice, and who doesn't like doing less work, no matter how trivial? :P

Also: death to magic numbers!!! Huzzah. Except for 80, and 3, and the color values... can't win 'em all.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and why do we even have to provide an id? Since everyone just increments anyway, and the registered integer ID is not really important for us to know, why not just save everyone the minute amount of trouble and auto-assign it in the background when an entity is registered? That's what I'd do, but I'm sure there are reasons. Oh the tedium lol.

Btw, in case anyone can't tell, I don't care one way or the other that we need an ID when registering, or whether people increment a counter or assign manually, but I like to argue pointless things (as I believe some others here may as well) :P
