[Reactivated] [1.9]V.1780: Can't open chest even with UPPER slab/REVERSED stairs

Using version 1.9-forge1.9-12.16.0.1780:

(issue existed several version before this).

If put stairs block or slab block on top of a chest (only tested double chest). the chest cannot be opened regardless what position I put the slab (top/ bottom), stairs (facing up/down)

Launch vanilla 1.9 and this issue goes away. Also tried without mods installed (just forge 1.9) and same issue.

The log fml-client-latest.log: http://pastebin.com/U18qHJyB

Thanks and keep up the good work.

More testing with this, it seems this issue is a bit different, from the link you sent out, regardless how I position the slab/stairs, the chest would not open

See this picture (borrowed from the other thread), chests cannot open in all the ABCD positions. I will "reactivate" this bug for now until being told its by design otherwise.

As mentioned that is intentional.

Don't care, Mojang is wrong, we will continue to fix this bug. Not fixing it would require us to special case the shit out of all stairs, or break a lot of Forge/Mod/Vanilla features.

The bug being mentioned is this one, which states that chests opening with slabs, stairs, etc over them is a bug. And while Mojang says its not a bug, Lex, not wanting to do more coding work than needed, is deciding to treat it as a bug.

So this means Forge will continue to make it so chests cannot be opened when slabs, stairs, etc are over them.

But as Lex mentioned in this thread, chests are only supposed to check if the bottom of the block is solid. Placing a slab in the upper half of a block or upside-down stairs shouldn't prevent chests from opening.

Please don't PM me to ask for help. Asking your question in a public thread preserves it for people who are having the same problem in the future.

Yes the behavior is bugged in 1.9, due to a change it's been fixed. I forgot to put a UP check in one if statement.

Again, SOLID surfaces BLOCK CHESTS.

This is simply how the world works.

Vanilla being BUGGY and having a half-assed side-solid system IS A BUG.

It does not make logical sense.

We have fix this bug for ages, and in doing so it enables a lot of special mod features like microblocks/covers/special placements.

I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated.
