I am trying to get active potion effects from an entity. I have tried: getActivePotionEffect(),  getActivePotionEffects() and isPotionActive but they just give null or false. I put MobEffects.Poison and Potion.getPotionByID(19). Am I missing something? And I have looked in minecraft code as well.

Those methods should work.

Where are you calling them from? Which entity are you calling them on? Does the entity definitely have the potion effect on it?

What code do you need? I have some code but it is not directly connected with this. Just some gui code.

Then how do you know that what you have "tried" dosnt work?

By looking at the console. It is supposed to print true.

So you DO have code related to the problem? So post it.

The client only rarely receives potion effect data for entities that aren't the client player (see

EntityTrackerEntry#updatePlayerEntity

and the methods that call it). The potion particle colour is calculated server-side and sent to the client where it's used to spawn the particles.

This means that you can't reliably access active potion effects for entities other than the client player on the client side.

Do you mean that there is no way of getting active potin effects or that it only works to get it on server side(if so some example code would be helpful).

On the client side, you can only get the active potion effects of the client player. On the server side, you can get the active potion effects of any entity.

How would I go to get the potion effect server side.

Use the methods you mentioned in the OP:

EntityLivingBase#getActivePotionEffects

,

EntityLivingBase#isPotionActive

and

EntityLivingBase#getActivePotionEffect

.

How you get these to execute on the server depends on what causes the code to run. Is it a key binding? Is it an event handler? Is it something else?

If I got this right: My code works but only servers side. And there is now way of getting potioneffects client side.

You've hit the age old question of "how do I send data from one computer to another?"
