Posted January 11, 20187 yr Since GameRegistry.registerFuelHandler(handler) is deprecated, how does one use Item.getBurnTime on a block to use the block as a fuel? Also, should this be called in Init, preInit or PostInit?
January 11, 20187 yr Create a class that extends ItemBlock and overrides Item#getItemBurnTime and then register an instance of this as the Item form of your Block. Please don't PM me to ask for help. Asking your question in a public thread preserves it for people who are having the same problem in the future.

The problem is that the javadocs for Minecraft are almost non-existent, and the ones for Forge are very incomplete and lacking in any examples. Not to mention much of the explanations for the methods are vague and don't offer any insight into what you should do for functionality, once in a while we at least see a "don't do this."

It isn't that bad compared to what was a couple of years ago. Now there is plenty of open source code to look at if you can't find documentation. People contribute to Forge for free, so don't expect it to be professional-grade project.

I was talking about the penchant for some people to just say "read the docs" when what you mentioned is the case.
