Completely new to modding, need help making forge work

Recommended Posts

I tried installing forge for minecraft on my mac, following instructions from a youtube video exactly and it didn't work. Minecraft freezes on the done loading screen. When looking up this error I found magiclauncher, which I am currently trying to make work. It says there is 1 error in forge and when I check the log it says this:

I have literally no idea what any of that means so any help would be appreciated :)

Update Java. Before you say anything about Java 7 being not available for Mac:

Look here.

There's an EAQ for a reason. Read it!

Oh, and logs OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN!!

I'm using Snow Leopard so I can't get Java 7. I followed your link but the installer still said I needed Lion.

One of your mods is compiling for java 7.. why?

Forge ships against java 6.

I really have no idea what that means or what to do about it, sorry. Can you please explain?

Software Update never has had, and probably never will have an update to Java.

Apparently Oracle made Java 7 updates only available to OS X 10.7.3 (Lion). Go yell at the author of whatever mod you installed not to use Java 7 then.

[spoiler=More Info]According to this, as of Java 7u6 only OS X 10.7.3+ is supported. Java 7u5 should work on OS X 10.6.8+. However, older archived versions of Java are unavailable for download to the public. So...blame the mod author.
