Posted July 22, 20187 yr I'm following along with a video tutorial on making custom items (it's still a pain for me) and they invoked ModelLoader like this: public class ClientProxy extends CommonProxy { public void registerItemRenderer(Item item, int meta, String id) { ModelLoader.setCustomModelResourceLocation(item, meta, new ModelResourceLocation(item.getRegistryName(), id)); } } Any reason they're putting it in the proxy classes as opposed to, say, the preInit() method?

It is client side only code, the server need not know about the model. You will then call that client proxy method in your ModelRegistryEvent class. VANILLA MINECRAFT CLASSES ARE THE BEST RESOURCES WHEN MODDING I will be posting 1.15.2 modding tutorials on this channel. If you want to be notified of it do the normal YouTube stuff like subscribing, ect. Forge and vanilla BlockState generator.
July 22, 20187 yr Not only does the server not need to know about the model, it cannot know. The attempt to call that method on the server will crash it with a ClassNotFoundException Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable. If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME. Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice. Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked. DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given.
July 22, 20187 yr Author I feel a bit out of my depth with most of this stuff. Aside from brushing up on Java, is there any place where a newcomer is recommended to start?
