I had no problems with this until switching to 1.7.10, the server is almost unplayable

i7 6700 3.4hz

16Gb ram

1.7.10 is not supported on these forums any more please update to receive assistance.

The minecraft forum does support any version (in relativity). You may not get the best response as on this forum, so I would recommend updating to 1.8 or higher.

You mean 1.9 or higher (preferably the latest version). We do not support 1.8.x and under. This includes 1.8.x. The lowest version we support is 1.9. I think that support for that version is likely to be dropped when Forge 1.13 comes out or Minecraft 1.14 comes out.
