Keeping minecraft.mappings up to date with new versions of Forge Mdk

The recommended 1.12.2 - 14.23.5.2768 and even the current latest version 1.12.2 - 14.23.5.2814 has a minecraft.mappings set to snapshot_20171003 in the build.gradle file ... which is pretty old and from what I understand (correct me if I'm wrong :D) might not match the actual Minecraft version 1.12.2 the Forge version is targeting.

 

I ran across this when I started out writing my mod on 14.23.5.2768 and locally it was all fine and working since the decomp workspace provides the Minecraft source according to the mapping but when I built the jar and tried to run it on the Minecraft launcher for that Forge version I ran into the following exception:

  

Caused by: java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: com.modalstudio.mctribes.item.ItemBlueprint.setUnlocalizedName(Ljava/lang/String;)Lnet/minecraft/item/Item;

 

snapshot_20171003 was hip for Minecraft 1.12.0 source but 1.12.2 has removed that method in favor of setTranslationKey. Moving to stable_39 solved the case for me but it took me a while to figure out why upgrading to the latest Forge version didn't affect the issue at all - because I assumed that mappings are something you're keeping up to date and I wouldn't have to worry about :D So if at all possible I'd like to suggest modifying your build process to keep that minecraft.mappings up to date.

Tried ./gradlew clean build on the following docker images: openjdk:8-jdk-slim, java:8 and atlassian/default-image:latest (java-8-openjdk-amd64), and the same on my local machine (jdk1.8.0_162). Cleared the workspace between switching the different Forge versions and reran setup steps described in the README. NoSuchMethodError persisted in launcher until I moved the mappings to stable_39.

You can update the MDK's mapping version yourself. The one Forge uses is just the default that Forge was built with.

We usually don't update it on Forge's end because it's a useless change that really doesn't effect end users.

At the end of the day, mods get reobfed to SRG names. Which are stable and unique. If you're getting the NoSuchMethodException, then you're not building your mod correctly.

The mappings are PURELY for dev time.

 

So... No... Update it yourself.

I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated.

      So I was adding a few mods, then this happened.

      I added an almost concerning amount of mods to my modpack, and it loaded just perfectly, no error during mod loading or anything like such. However, when I went to use my test world and try to load it, the game would crash after the rendering completed, so basically the period of time before loading in and rendering the world. https://mclo.gs/s9s2EdC

      All the Mods 10 Server, Listing Stuck Threads

      This is my first time having to post about this but my longtime server for ATM10 is having trouble booting. I get a repeating message saying: AllTheLeaks: Listing stuck threads... Stuck thread: pool-27-thread-1 Stuck thread: pool-28-thread-1 After about 1-2 minutes of this it just crashes.       Advanced Rocketry crashing with Biome Remote after launch, satellite not showing up (E2E 1.83)

      I’m playing Enigmatica 2 Expert 1.83 and running into a pretty bad issue with Advanced Rocketry. I built a satellite, linked a Biome Remote to it, and launched it. The rocket returns after the launch, but it’s empty. I can’t access the satellite through the Biome Remote or the Satellite Terminal. It’s like the satellite just never made it to orbit. Often even mousing over the Biome Remote crashes the game. This only happens after I have linked it and launched a satellite. I've tried other types of satellites and they also fail to reach orbit from either Earth or the Moon. So far I’ve tried: Reloading the modpack Starting a brand new world Updating Advanced Rocketry and LibVulpes through CurseForge Same result every time: rocket launches → satellite goes nowhere → Biome Remote causes crashes. If anyone’s seen this or knows a workaround, I’d really appreciate any help. I’m trying to avoid abandoning the save if possible. And sorry if this isn’t the right place to ask — let me know if I should post it somewhere else.

      So im trying to set up a forge server, and I tried launching it after following all tutorial steps but i got this error it crashes after that last line. I havent added any mods, Ive repeatedly reinstalled, I have the latest version of java and my PC is up to data, does anyone know how to fix this?
