Hello, I wanted to add an CustomItem to the cows/any other mobs normal Drops.

My customcow class looks like this:

Spoiler

package nick.cockmod;

import net.minecraft.entity.EntityType;
import net.minecraft.entity.passive.CowEntity;
import net.minecraft.util.ResourceLocation;
import net.minecraft.world.World;

public class customcow extends CowEntity{

	public customcow(EntityType<? extends CowEntity> type, World p_i48567_2_) {
		super(type, p_i48567_2_);
		// TODO Auto-generated constructor stub
	}

	@Override
	public ResourceLocation getLootTable() {
		// TODO Auto-generated method stub
		return new ResourceLocation("cockmod", "entities/customcow");
	}

}

Ive tried a lot of variants for the customcow.json loot_table:

Spoiler

{
  "type": "minecraft:entity",
  "pools": [
    {
      "name": "cockmod:cockpool",
      "rolls": 1,
      "entries": [
        {
          "type": "minecraft:item",
          "name": "cockmod:cockblock"
        }
      ]
    }
  ]
}

or:

Spoiler

{
  "type": "minecraft:entity",
  "pools": [
    {
      "name": "cockmod:cockpool",
      "rolls": 1,
      "entries": [
        {
          "type": "minecraft:item",
          "name": "cockmod:salt"
        }
      ]
    },
    {
      "rolls": 1,
      "entries": [
        {
          "type": "minecraft:loot_table",
          "name": "minecraft:entities/cow"
        }
      ]
    }
  ]
}

or just straight up copying the cow(or other mob) loot_table and changing the items:

Spoiler

{
  "type": "minecraft:entity",
  "pools": [
    {
      "rolls": 1,
      "entries": [
        {
          "type": "minecraft:item",
          "functions": [
            {
              "function": "minecraft:set_count",
              "count": {
                "min": 0.0,
                "max": 2.0,
                "type": "minecraft:uniform"
              }
            },
            {
              "function": "minecraft:looting_enchant",
              "count": {
                "min": 0.0,
                "max": 1.0
              }
            }
          ],
          "name": "cockmod:cockingot"
        }
      ]
    },
    {
      "rolls": 1,
      "entries": [
        {
          "type": "minecraft:item",
          "functions": [
            {
              "function": "minecraft:set_count",
              "count": {
                "min": 1.0,
                "max": 3.0,
                "type": "minecraft:uniform"
              }
            },
            {
              "function": "minecraft:looting_enchant",
              "count": {
                "min": 0.0,
                "max": 1.0
              }
            }
          ],
          "name": "cockmod:salt"
        }
      ]
    }
  ]
}

But none of it seems to work. The cow is just dropping its vanilla items.

Has anybody got an idea?

Creating a custom entity does not make the existing entity now your custom one. Its just dead code.

Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable.  If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME.  Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice.

Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked.

DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given.

Your mod is also technically a resource pack and a data pack. You basically treat your src/main/resources/ folder as both of them. That means you can add a custom loot table JSON file using the minecraft namespace.

  • Thanks 1

Don't PM me with questions. They will be ignored! Make a thread on the appropriate board for support.

1.7.10 and older versions of Minecraft are no longer supported due to it's age! Update to the latest version for support.

@larsgerrits Thank you so much! I got it now. I took a look inside a datapack. The json has to be in data/modid/minecraft/loot_tables/entities

And then my cow.json is looking like this and it works:
