1.8.9 Substitute Reccomendation..

Recommended Posts

I heard 1.8+ are no longer supported so I'm here to ask you guys what version of Minecraft is a good substitute to 1.8.9? I'm used to 1.8.9 so I would highly appreciate it If the version you guys reccomend are as identical to 1.8.9 (With the block hitting things)

EDIT: I have realised that I gave little information about the reccomendation thing so what I meant is, I'm more of a PvP person so what I meant was, What version of Minecraft is best to pvp on?

Gave too little specifications..

As of right now, the options are simply 1.14.4 or 1.15.2 if you wish to receive support. The latest is pretty much always the recommended version to use, but you can try either and see which one suits you.

That being said, you are free to use any version you wish, as long as you will not require support from the forge forums/discord.

For normal Minecraft I think the general consensus (that I've heard -- don't quote me!) is that 1.8.9 is the best in terms of PvP mechanics, as it uses pre-1.9 combat and has the most bugs ruled out of the pre-1.9 versions. It is, however, missing 5 years of good features from 1.8.9 - 1.16

For Forge, the latest version (and one behind, as of this writing) is the best if you need support, as versions older than that are not supported.

Just some things to bear in mind :)

Give any applicable of: logs, code, desired effects, and actual effects. Be thorough or we can't help you, and don't post code without putting it in a code block (the <> button on the post - select "C-type Language"): syntax highlighting makes everything easier, and it keeps the post tidy.

Not sure where you got this from. It's opinion based.

    • Thanks for all your help. Here is the method that seems to register the attributes correctly. Entity Class: public class TestEntity extends CowEntity { public static final String REG = "simple_entity"; public static final EntityType<TestEntity> TYPE = EntityType.Builder.<TestEntity>of(TestEntity::new, EntityClassification.MISC) .sized(0.98F, 0.7F) .clientTrackingRange(8) .build(REG); public static final AttributeModifierMap MAP = AttributeModifierMap.builder().add(Attributes.MAX_HEALTH, 20.0) .add(Attributes.MOVEMENT_SPEED, 20.0) .add(Attributes.FOLLOW_RANGE, 20.0) .build(); public TestEntity(EntityType<? extends CowEntity> p_i48567_1_, World p_i48567_2_) { super(p_i48567_1_, p_i48567_2_); this.setNoAi(true); } } Main Class: @Mod(Main.MODID) public class Main { //trim public Main() { IEventBus bus = FMLJavaModLoadingContext.get().getModEventBus(); bus.register(this.getClass()); //trim LOGGER.info("STAR has been initialised"); } //trim @SubscribeEvent public static void entityAttributeCreationEvent(EntityAttributeCreationEvent event) { LOGGER.info("STAR - Entity Attribute Event"); event.put(TestEntity.TYPE, TestEntity.MAP); } //trim } Now I seem to have an error where there is no defined ai for the entity causing a ticking crash but I'll make a separate topic for that.

    • Forge now ships the mdk with the official mojang mappings over the previously used mcp mappings. As such, fields/methods/params will be different between the two mappings. For example, Item#onItemRightClick has become Item#use. If you would like to use the old mappings, you can look on Forgecord in the 1.16 modder support channel's pins and find the current version of the mcp mappings available.
