I am trying to damage an item in 1.16.5.

 

Currently i have this code:

itemStack.getItem().damageItem(itemStack, 100, entity, null);

but this doesnt works for me.

anyone have an idea?

@Beethoven92 yeah the item is damageable and the method ItemStack#damageItem doesnt exists by me. also i dont know with what i sould replace the null (onBroken). i would like to destroy the item when it is broken

Have you tried looking for existing usages of the damageItem method in vanilla code? Try looking at the shears item class for example

You almost certainly don't want to pass null.
