    You need to reassociate .jar files with Java, I believe there is a program out there called jarfix that does just that.

    As long as it doesn't affect worldgen too much it should be safe. It sounds like one of those mods that adds a single block anyway.

    After creating your custom EntityItem class, you would subscribe to EntityJoinWorldEvent and replace the entity with your custom one. I think this post ended up doing that:
