Installing Forge for older versions

I would like to install Forge on Minecraft versions 1.4.5 or 1.3.2 (to anyone wondering why, it's to use IndustrialCraft² , which is only avaiable for this versions or earlier ones). I found download links for the older versions inhttp://files.minecraftforge.net/minecraftforge/index_legacy.html , but the installer I got from http://www.minecraftforge.net/forum/index.php/topic,2019.0.html only works for version 1.7.2. I have no idea how to install it without the installer. Thanks for any help.

Might I recommend you use MultiMC (multimc.org)? It has access to all forge versions after MC 1.2.

And BTW there's an IC2 version for 1.6. http://ic2api.player.to:8080/

Read the EAQ before posting! OR ELSE!

This isn't building better software, its trying to grab a place in the commit list of a highly visible github project.

MultiMC 5 should work.  MultiMC 4 would not, as locations of files have changed (they're no longer hosted on Amazon's cloud services).

Thanks, guys. There's nothing like a forum like this for troubleshooting. I did download MultiMC 5, but the list that shows up when I click on "Install Forge" ends on 1.6.1. I can't download for 1.6, which is the version you said there was IC² to.

Oh that.  That's actually easy to fix.  There's a list of versions MMC has (its plain text).  Just copy the top one and change the version numbers to the version you want.  Like magic it'll find it (and ALL the inbetweens).

Can't recall the name of the file offhand.

Edit:

[mmc directory]/mods/minecraftforge/list.json

You just need another chunk like this:

"build": 944,
      "files": [
        {
          "branch": "",
          "buildnum": "944",
          "buildtype": "changelog",
          "ext": "txt",
          "jobbuildver": "9.11.1.944",
          "jobname": "minecraftforge",
          "jobver": "9.11.1",
          "mcver": "1.6.4",
          "url": "http://files.minecraftforge.net/minecraftforge/minecraftforge-changelog-1.6.4-9.11.1.944.txt"
        },

Replacing all instances of "944" with whatever version you need.

(the mcver number too, if necessary)

MMC needs to update for our json formats.

Yes, they do.  I've even reported it to them.  But in poking around on my own I found that if I added a new entry manually the program was smart enough to fill in the missing versions.
