Tutorial shows something like: 1.8-11.14.0.1290

 

build.gradle included in the source downloads appends "-1.8" to that ... why? Is it needed?

 

I get that it's there, and probably for a reason - just not sure what that reason is, and I'm a curious type :)

    1.8 means it's for Minecraft 1.8, that isn't obvious?

     

    Looking at my build.gradle, it's not appended like you say - it's also prepended.

    That is the branch. Yes it is needed if you want to use any of the versions that are not on the master branch.

    I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated.
