Awesomeguy8802
Hey guys! I am making a Minecraft mod but I need help with something. I am making a lava sword and I want it so whenever you right click it shoots a small, lava projectile that sets a living entity on fire but I have no idea how to do that. If it is possible and you can help me with this it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Ernio
- Create new Entity extending either EntityThrowable or implementing IProjectile (1st one easier). - Copy and learn from fireball/arrow/snowball entity code. - Use ItemSword#onItemRightClick (i think) to shoot. - In method (above) you will need to spawn entity in world (plenty of examples in vanilla code - eg. snowman shooting snowballs). - The projectile shoots. - Hits. - BOOM - does something - now that something you should figure out how to write (by looking at arrow/fireball code), you need to make action on hit and e.g entityHit.setFire(2); Quote 1.7.10 is no longer supported by forge, you are on your own. Also if you don't know Java, I would suggest you read the official tutorials by Oracle to get an idea of how to do this. Thanks, and good modding! Also if you haven't, set up a Git repo for your mod not only for convinience but also to make it easier to help you.

Draco18s
Second off he means that you should override onItemRightClick on your Sword class. How would I do that? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Method_overriding Quote Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable. If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME. Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice. Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked. DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given. coolAlias
Second off he means that you should override onItemRightClick on your Sword class. How would I do that? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Method_overriding @OP See what Draco did there? He used the power of the internet to find information. You, too, are capable of harnessing that power, should you choose to do so. Besides, Ernio already gave you all of the Minecraft-specific information you need to do what you asked, but your lack of Java knowledge is preventing you from implementing it. Please learn Java. My code for the shooting part is here. First off, Use is not command. Second off he means that you should override onItemRightClick on your Sword class. So I did it in my LavaSword class and this is my code but there is an error on the ItemSword in the @Override ItemSword#onItemRightClick. I also could get any this, posX, and posY statements to work unless I extended my LavaSword class from my EntityLavaShot class. I don't know if that is correct of if I'm putting things in the right classes. @Override ItemSword#onItemRightClick public void attackEntityWithRangedAttack(EntityLivingBase p_82196_1_, float p_82196_2_) { EntityLavaShot entitylavashot = new EntityLavaShot(this.worldObj, this); double d0 = p_82196_1_.posY + (double)p_82196_1_.getEyeHeight() - 1.100000023841858D; double d1 = p_82196_1_.posX - this.posX; double d2 = d0 - entitylavashot.posY; double d3 = p_82196_1_.posZ - this.posZ; float f1 = MathHelper.sqrt_double(d1 * d1 + d3 * d3) * 0.2F; entitylavashot.setThrowableHeading(d1, d2 + (double)f1, d3, 1.6F, 12.0F); this.worldObj.spawnEntityInWorld(entitylavashot); }
coolAlias
@Override ItemSword#onItemRightClick public void attackEntityWithRangedAttack(EntityLivingBase p_82196_1_, float p_82196_2_) ... what the hell is that supposed to be? PLEASE go learn Java. There is nothing we can do to help you at this point other than giving you the exact code, but it's such a very basic Java principle that you really shouldn't need it. Stop modding (for now). Learn Java. Quote http://i.imgur.com/NdrFdld.png[/img]
