Posted April 29, 201510 yr Ok, I feel the answer to this is probably no, but I thought I'd ask anyway. Is there a way to access the like items from OreDictionary (outside of recipes)? I want to be able to loop through the inventory and check items against an OreDictionary item. Any suggestions welcome.
April 29, 201510 yr Author The OreDictionary class has various methods that allow you to do this. For some reason, I did not think of OreDictionary as a class with methods. I thought of it as a mysterious black box full of mystery and intrigue. Not kidding. Thanks, as always, diesieben07.

April 29, 201510 yr Be VERY CAREFUL. I've optimized the Dictionary as much as I can however lookups are still time consuming Doing them every tick or whatever will be extremely laggy. The more the dictionary grows the longer the lag. Think very carefully on how you want to do the system. I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated. April 29, 201510 yr Author Thanks, Lex. Think I'm ok. The OreDictionary lookup will only occur when the pet needs to eat, so thousands of ticks apart. But good to know and will keep it mind..... For anyone interested in the solution I went with, I took it straight from the OreDictionary methods, as diesieben07 suggested. After checking if timing and other conditions are right, loop through the player inventory, using OreDictionary.getOres and OreDictionary.itemMatches Thanks, both.
April 29, 201510 yr You could also cache the result (which item slot and what item). If that item slot has the item, no need for an OreDict lookup. If not, check the rest of the inventory for that item. If that fails (or the cache was null), you OreDict check the whole inventory.
