Posted September 23, 20169 yr Simple question, is it possible to give an item a random tool material when it is created? I have tried a few things, but nothing fruitful.
September 23, 20169 yr You will have to write the data the tool material stores to nbt and read the data from nbt in the methods that call for them. VANILLA MINECRAFT CLASSES ARE THE BEST RESOURCES WHEN MODDING I will be posting 1.15.2 modding tutorials on this channel. If you want to be notified of it do the normal YouTube stuff like subscribing, ect. Forge and vanilla BlockState generator.
September 23, 20169 yr Should be able to. I did this in 1.7.10 and as long as you override the proper methods you can read the values from NBT and figure it out from there. getMaxDamage is how much durability the item has (based on material) getDigSpeed is how fast the material affects block breaking getIsRepairable handles repair in the anvil (e.g. if you want to allow iron ingots to repair iron items) getAttributeModifiers to modify item damage based on material addInformation and/or getItemStackDisplayName if you want to have a tooltip saying what the item's material is Note: method signatures have likely changed since 1.7.10, but you can see how I handled this stuff in my Artifacts mod: https://github.com/Draco18s/Artifacts/blob/master/main/java/com/draco18s/artifacts/item/ItemArtifact.java Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable. If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME. Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice. Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked. DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given.
September 23, 20169 yr Author ~snip~ Thanks for the advice. I had been trying to do something rather ghetto. Those methods look much more sensible.
