I am following a tutorial and it uses tessellator.instance but it doesn't work is there something that I have to do to make it work prior or did they just change the code.

    Some of the methods have changed between 1.8 and 1.10. I think there were also changes between 1.7.10 and 1.8. You'd do best to look up a vanilla renderer in both 1.7.2 and 1.10.2 to see how usage differs. Find a vanilla item/block somewhat like what you are modding and use it as a guide.

    The debugger is a powerful and necessary tool in any IDE, so learn how to use it. You'll be able to tell us more and get better help here if you investigate your runtime problems in the debugger before posting.

    Use the model system instead of the TESR system. Use something like cubik pro to create the model i have a vanilla blockstate generator file on my github if you would like to use that aswell.

    What are you trying to do? If you're trying to just draw pipes you can do it with the blockstates and vanilla model system. Look into vanilla fence code and blockstates to see how to do that/
