Posted August 7, 20178 yr I'm planning to upgrade my 1.7.10 mod to support a more recent version of Minecraft. Due to the huge change in the block\item rendering, it is going to take a lot of effort to upgrade, almost equal to re-writing the mod. Which version should I target? 1.10.2, 1.11.2 or 1.12? August 7, 20178 yr i would suggest going to 1.11.2 and then later when many people will be playing 1.12 upgrade again
August 7, 20178 yr Forge policy is always to target the latest stable build (currently 1.12 - 14.21.1.2387). Otherwise we get another situation like we had with 1.7.10, where no-one wanted to update.
August 7, 20178 yr Personally I plan on updating an older mod of mine to 1.10 or 1.11 before updating it to 1.12, as there are fewer alterations that need to be made that have to be done for 1.12 and I figure I can start on the earlier changes, push a version for 1.10/1.11, before finalizing things for 1.12. Its because I want to supply the mod for the people who have already split off, while segmenting the work that needs to be done into smaller batches. Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable. If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME. Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice. Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked. DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given.
August 7, 20178 yr Update to 1.12. If the mod is large, by the time you do it, most likely the majority of 1.8+ players will be on 1.12. Edited August 7, 20178 yr by MrBendelScrolls

I started upgrading to 1.11.2 yesterday, and get 1500+ errors. After temporarily removing some parts of my mod which are closely related to rendering, It can run in 1.11.2. Trying to rewrite the rendering code and solve weird bugs QAQ My mod: SimElectricity - High Voltages, Electrical Power Transmission & Distribution https://github.com/RoyalAliceAcademyOfSciences/SimElectricity
