What?

What do you mean Forge turns into a json file?

Where are you downloading Forge from? Please give a URL.

This is my Forum Signature, I am currently attempting to transform it into a small guide for fixing easier issues using spoiler blocks to keep things tidy.

As the most common issue I feel I should put this outside the main bulk:

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.

For players asking for assistance with Forge please expand the spoiler below and read the appropriate section(s) in its/their entirety.

Which download did you click? The installer?

When you say it turns into a json file do you mean the file ends in .json? Or are you assuming this based on the icon?

Wait. Why do you need the jar if your clicking client extract? If you need a server jar you click server and install and it downloads the necessary library s and the jar to the directory that you tell it to.

If you want a client install you click client and it installs forge to %appdata%\.minecraft

Then you launch it from the launcher.

What are you trying to do?

I assume you see the json file as a log file if its in the same directory as the installer.

I'm not running a server, when I extract it it doesn't extract a jar file which I need. I had done it like 15 times and still nothing. I searched online and I'm not the only one with this problem. But no one has found out why this is happening. Forge did work before but there must have been a update but that's still no reason for it not to download the jar file.

You do not need a jar file. Use the installer to install the Forge version into .minecraft. This does not include a jar file. Then run Forge from the Minecraft launcher. Do not use third party launchers.

i understand how this might sound out of context, but i need to know if you need an executable jar file along with a .json file in order to run forge

1) Do not hijack threads

2) Our installer installs everything you need.

3) This has been answered literally a hundred + times.

  • Thanks 1

I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated.
