I'm new to modding.

I'm trying to add a block to Minecraft. I managed to add a very simple (default purple/black) block with no assets and everything went well, I had a block and an associated item.

I've added an assets folder in my src directory and added some color and model data to my block&item.. However I came accross this error when I tried running Minecraft again

Any help appreciated,
Thank you

Also, one thing doesn't look like another. I.e. compare the screenshot you shared with the toml file contents.

Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable.  If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME.  Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice.

Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked.

DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given.

I am new to modding and Java and I had this same problem.

In my mods.toml file I have this line:

modId="fdmapexplorer" #mandatory

FDMapExplorer is the name of my mod.

I found this in my main mod java file:

@Mod("assets/fdmapexplorer")

I know I didn't type that in so at some point my IDE(IntelliJ IDEA) may have tried to help. Anyway...

I changed it to:

@Mod("fdmapexplorer")

AND TA-DA! Everything works!

Hopefully this helps you.

Thank you for the one actually helpful reply in this thread. I think the problem is that if you moved/renamed the mod_id directory, it replaced all instances of your mod_id in your code with 'assets/mod_id'

Provide a possible reason why IntelliJ is being stupid
