So, I have looked all over the internet to solve my problem, but I found nothing.

My problem is the following:

I have been following this tutorial on YouTube for creating a mod, because I am new to modding and know just the basics of Java: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDhiRTZ_vnoWsCqtoG1X1MbGY5xATTadb

I have come to the point, where I have created my own item but the texture of it won't show up in Minecraft. The model is displayed as an item as intended.

I just always get this error in the logs when I'm trying to load up Minecraft:

[07:58:51] [Worker-Main-14/ERROR] [minecraft/AtlasTexture]: Using missing texture, unable to load tutorial:textures/items/ruby.png : java.io.FileNotFoundException: tutorial:textures/items/ruby.png

The .png is 16x16 pixels and placed in the correct directory.

I really don't understand what I have done wrong. Please help me.

the file does not exist / in the wrong folder because your ide shows you the error

post your model class because only with the error it will be difficult to help you

{
  "parent": "item/generated",
  "textures": {
    "layer0": "tutorial:items/ruby"
  }
}

This is in models/item/ruby.json

The file is textures/items/ruby.png

Also, my registry handler if you need it:

@Mod.EventBusSubscriber
public class RegistryHandler {

    public static final DeferredRegister<Item> ITEMS = DeferredRegister.create(ForgeRegistries.ITEMS, Tutorial.MOD_ID);

    public static void init(){
        ITEMS.register(FMLJavaModLoadingContext.get().getModEventBus());
    }

    //Items

    public static final RegistryObject<Item> RUBY = ITEMS.register("ruby", ItemBase::new);

}

And my item base:

public class ItemBase extends Item {

    public ItemBase() {
        super(new Item.Properties().group(ItemGroup.MATERIALS));
    }
}

the model and your registration looks okay i think that you have your texture in a wrong directory (because your ide shows you the error)

can you create a screenshot of your textures folder in your ide because I suspect that the error is there somewhere

or create a github repo (that would be the best option)
