We don't deal with blocks by ID anymore, we deal with them by Block/Item objects.

As always the answer is not black or white but gray.

Here is how it works:

Blocks/Items have unique (string) identifiers such as

minecraft:stone

.

To avoid blowing up the size of the save-files (and Minecraft's memory-consumption), they are mapped to integer-ids.

But those mappings are dynamic, which means that in world A

minecraft:stone

could be Id 1 and in World B it could be Id 1254 or whatever.

Those mappings are saved alongside with the world.

 

TL/DR: Yes, Minecraft will use Integer ids internally, but you don't have to care about them or any possible conflicts at all.

Only one question more, the IDs still will be limited to 4096 for blocks and 32000 for Items, or they will be "unlimited"?

It is limited by what the world format can support, so as there are no changes to the world format in 1.7 you can still only have 32000 items (including 4096 blocks)

It is limited by what the world format can support, so as there are no changes to the world format in 1.7 you can still only have 32000 items (including 4096 blocks)

That's a bad new, i thought the ID would become "unlimited" or any case bigger than 32000, because i had planned to make a mod of about 16.800.000 blocks.

Are you REALLY gunna have more then 4096 blocks loaded at a single time.. I think not.

And if you do, either the modder should be shot or you need to reign things in.

'Unlimited' never exists, there will ALWAYS be a limit, this one is in place based off the save format.

I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated.

How will the unique identifiers impact the current use of meta data for compacting various blocks into a single ID, Will we be less concerned with saving id space?

You are still limited to 4096 block IDs, which ain't a concern unless youre mod adds thousands of blocks for a valid reason (rp2 pannels i.e.)

 

So well normally it won't be a big concern for ya :P

If you guys dont get it.. then well ya.. try harder...

    • Do you use features of inventory profiles next (ipnext) or is there a change without it?
    • Remove rubidium - you are already using embeddium, which is a fork of rubidium
