I am working on a mod and I want my entity to take an item out of my inventory when I get too close too it I tried this EntityPlayer play = this.worldObj.getClosestPlayerToEntity(this, 4.0F); ItemStack stack = play.inventory.getCurrentItem(); if(stack != null && stack.getItem() == Items.acacia_door){ --stack.stackSize; } But it just crashes when I spawn the entity can anyone help
January 20, 20178 yr Author I spawned the entity within 4 blocks of me (what I set the distance to) and it still crashed.
January 20, 20178 yr I spawned the entity within 4 blocks of me (what I set the distance to) and it still crashed. Post the crash. VANILLA MINECRAFT CLASSES ARE THE BEST RESOURCES WHEN MODDING I will be posting 1.15.2 modding tutorials on this channel. January 20, 20178 yr Author What kind of problem? It is telling me that that is what caused the error. I shoul've mentioned this but I have the original code in my onLivingUpdate in my entity's class
January 20, 20178 yr Author Which problem? You have not mentioned any kind of problem except "it crashed". "Doctor, it hurts." - "Where?" - "DOCTOR, IT HURTS!" As soon as I spawn the entity in the world it crashes, and if I already have the entity in the world it crashes before I can even see the world.
January 20, 20178 yr Post the crash. Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable. If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME. Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice. January 20, 20178 yr Author My f***ing god. You just assume that getClosestPlayerToEntity will always return a player. But what if there is nobody nearby? Then it will return null . And you can't access fields or call methods on null . Seriously, if you just completely disregard anything we say, then yes, your problems will not magically disappear in a puff of smoke. Does that mean it is not possible to do what I want to do?

January 20, 20178 yr Then getCurrentItem will return null (or ItemStack.EMPTY in non-outdated Minecraft versions). (I know, I just want to let him figure it out by himself what are the cases and the results) Squirrel ! Squirrel ! Squirrel !
