Hey!

I was wondering, is there any way to yield the player with a random item or block from Minecraft or my own mod? Is it just as simple as giving the player a random item by getting a random item id?

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thank you!

Well, as long as it is valid, yes. But since it is a registry system I wouldn't call it an "id" but rather the "key" for the related collection. So you can get the list of keys from the appropriate registry and then pick a random one from the list. Find the registry and then look at the available methods to get ideas on how to get the keys. Picking a random one then just requires typical Java technique -- I'm pretty sure you can just google "get random entry from Java list" to get examples.

But I mean what would be the appropriate registry? How can it include all items and blocks from all the mods that the player has loaded and Minecraft?

The ForgeRegistries class contains references to all existing registries. It should be straightforward to find out which you need.

Item is a list of all Items and Blocks, or just Items?

List<Item> items = Lists.newArrayList(ForgeRegistries.ITEMS.getValues());
Random rand = new Random();
Item item = items.get(rand.nextInt(items.size()));

Not sure how an IForgeRegistry<Item> is supposed to contain Block instances.

Then what does contain item and block instances???

ForgeRegistries.BLOCKS contains all blocks, ForgeRegistries.ITEMS contains all items.

Why do you want both, though? You cannot usefully use them in the same way.

I want the player to obtain a random item or block from right clicking an item.

Please clarify what you mean by "obtaining a block". Where should the block go?

The player's inventory of course, as an ItemStack

Blocks cannot exist as ItemStacks. You want an ItemBlock.

Yes, ItemBlock, but there is no ForgeRegistries list for that, if I stand corrected

Please clarify.

The List<Item> still doesn't contain any blocks...
