'setupDecompWorkspace' no longer exists. Forge, and by extent ForgeGradle, for 1.13.x received major rewrites, and a lot of things are done very differently. Please do your research before posting here.

Also, Java 11 is not supported. Use Java 8, 9 or 10.

Don't tell ppl "do your research before posting here" as the README.txt file that comes with the MDK of Forge 1.13.2 25.0.9 and 25.0.10 says to use setupDecomWorkspace its obvious that the README.txt file was not updated but you don't have to be a dick.

That is not how this works Ali... if you have an issue make a thread

This is my Forum Signature, I am currently attempting to transform it into a small guide for fixing easier issues using spoiler blocks to keep things tidy.

As the most common issue I feel I should put this outside the main bulk:

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.

For players asking for assistance with Forge please expand the spoiler below and read the appropriate section(s) in its/their entirety.

Spoiler

Logs (Most issues require logs to diagnose):

Spoiler

Please post logs using one of the following sites (Thank you Lumber Wizard for the list):

https://gist.github.com/100MB Requires member (Free)

https://pastebin.com/: 512KB as guest, 10MB as Pro ($$$)

https://hastebin.com/: 400KB

Do NOT use sites like Mediafire, Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, or a site that has a countdown before offering downloads.

What to provide:

...for Crashes and Runtime issues:

Minecraft 1.14.4 and newer:

Post debug.log

Older versions:

Please update...

...for Installer Issues:

Post your installer log, found in the same place you ran the installer

This log will be called either installer.log or named the same as the installer but with .log on the end

Note for Windows users:

Windows hides file extensions by default so the installer may appear without the .jar extension then when the .log is added the log will appear with the .jar extension

Where to get it:

Mojang Launcher: When using the Mojang launcher debug.log is found in .minecraft\logs.

Curse/Overwolf: If you are using the Curse Launcher, their configurations break Forge's log settings, fortunately there is an easier workaround than I originally thought, this works even with Curse's installation of the Minecraft launcher as long as it is not launched THROUGH Twitch:

Spoiler
  1. Make sure you have the correct version of Forge installed (some packs are heavily dependent on one specific build of Forge)
  2. Make a launcher profile targeting this version of Forge.
  3. Set the launcher profile's GameDir property to the pack's instance folder (not the instances folder, the folder that has the pack's name on it).
  4. Now launch the pack through that profile and follow the "Mojang Launcher" instructions above.

Video:

or alternately,

Fallback ("No logs are generated"):

If you don't see logs generated in the usual place, provide the launcher_log.txt from .minecraft

Server Not Starting:

Spoiler

If your server does not start or a command window appears and immediately goes away, run the jar manually and provide the output.

Reporting Illegal/Inappropriate Adfocus Ads:

Spoiler

Get a screenshot of the URL bar or copy/paste the whole URL into a thread on the General Discussion board with a description of the Ad.

Lex will need the Ad ID contained in that URL to report it to Adfocus' support team.

Posting your mod as a GitHub Repo:

Spoiler

When you have an issue with your mod the most helpful thing you can do when asking for help is to provide your code to those helping you. The most convenient way to do this is via GitHub or another source control hub.

When setting up a GitHub Repo it might seem easy to just upload everything, however this method has the potential for mistakes that could lead to trouble later on, it is recommended to use a Git client or to get comfortable with the Git command line. The following instructions will use the Git Command Line and as such they assume you already have it installed and that you have created a repository.

  1. Open a command prompt (CMD, Powershell, Terminal, etc).
  2. Navigate to the folder you extracted Forge’s MDK to (the one that had all the licenses in).
  3. Run the following commands:
    1. git init
    2. git remote add origin [Your Repository's URL]
      • In the case of GitHub it should look like: https://GitHub.com/[Your Username]/[Repo Name].git
    3. git fetch
    4. git checkout --track origin/master
    5. git stage *
    6. git commit -m "[Your commit message]"
    7. git push
  4. Navigate to GitHub and you should now see most of the files.
    • note that it is intentional that some are not synced with GitHub and this is done with the (hidden) .gitignore file that Forge’s MDK has provided (hence the strictness on which folder git init is run from)
  5. Now you can share your GitHub link with those who you are asking for help.

[Workaround line, please ignore]

Thank you for this.  I was confused as well because the readme says to run this command

gradlew setupDecompWorkspace

All good now :)

How to import build.gradle as a gradle project whilst a gradle project is folder, not a file?

If you are referring to Eclipse, just select the folder containing the build.gradle.

If you are referring to IntelliJ: Just open the build.gradle.

Thanks, I was just mischieving by "import gradle.build" — you've it more clear!

Nothing about the quoted post was rude.

You are mistaking being factual for rudeness.

"Please do your research before posting here." is rude.  The OP's question in itself is an act of research.  "Please do your research before posting here" is not a fact.  It's an imperative.  The OP comes here asking for help and he is being told to "do your research."  Get over yourselves. If you don't want to be helpful then what are you doing here besides berating people?  Or is this forum only for the "elite"?

“Research” in this context means searching (as opposed to asking).

The proper method of finding a solution is as follow:

1. Use Google/any relevant method of searching in the specific topic.

2. If step 1 yields no results, ask other people.

The reason why step 1 precedes step 2 is it doesn’t require other people’s attention/time. If everyone asks trivial questions/questions that has been asked numerous times before, then the forums would be flooded by the same question. This would take up other forum members/staffs’ time, making people who are really in need of the forum unable to find help.

Some tips:

Modder Support:

Spoiler

1. Do not follow tutorials on YouTube, especially TechnoVision (previously called Loremaster) and HarryTalks, due to their promotion of bad practice and usage of outdated code.

2. Always post your code.

3. Never copy and paste code. You won't learn anything from doing that.

4.

Programming via Eclipse's hotfixes will get you nowhere

5. Learn to use your IDE, especially the debugger.

The "picture that's worth 1000 words" only works if there's an obvious problem or a freehand red circle around it.

Support & Bug Reports:

Spoiler

1. Read the EAQ before asking for help. Remember to provide the appropriate log(s).

2. Versions below 1.11 are no longer supported due to their age. Update to a modern version of Minecraft to receive support.

I'm with you on the 2-step process (except I have a step before step #1 - try stuff yourself first).  We get a lot of repeats over on StackOverflow which has a nice way of handling repeat questions.  On other forums it takes me 10 "valuable" seconds to point them to a link of someone else with the same question getting it answered, or sometimes I give them the answer if it's simple enough.  My son wanted to learn to mod Minecraft.  Searching gave me this result:  https://codakid.com/guide-to-minecraft-modding-with-java/  Following the tutorial on there, I was setting up my son's computer using Eclipse.  I'm a seasoned developer of 20 years, but I use mainly VS and sometimes Intellij.  I'm not well versed in Eclipse.  I ran into the same issue as the OP and thanks to his/her post, I found the cause of the issue.  It may be trivial to you, but not to me or any other beginner in Forge + Eclipse modding.  I've spent 30 minutes so far troubleshooting and searching for a good tutorial for setting up Eclipse with Forge.  Many results point to the old way when the Forge folder was the mod folder, but based on what I've read, that's changed yet there's no good walkthrough for setting it up.  Perhaps it's not your intent but when you say "making people who are really in need of the forum unable to find help" you're diminishing the legitimacy of their question.  It's implying they're not really in need.  They may just be getting started.  Realize that not everyone is as good at articulating their question into a search or forum post.  If we come off as dismissive to people who are trying to learn and get started, we're going to turn them away from their desire to learn and be creative and add to our community.  I wouldn't want that for my son, just as I wouldn't want that for anyone else trying to give development a shot.

    • Hello! I have been having a problem with Forgematica, Embeddium, Oculus, and create. I wanted to download litematica so I could see which blocks are in my creative mode build, so that I could collect them all in survival. However, litematica is a fabric mod. I found a port called forgematica, which I added (along with it's dependency) to my mods folder. I loaded into a new world, and built a structure. Then, I added a part from the create mod, and the game crashed instantly, with exit code -1. Thanks for any help! Crash Report and mods list: https://pastebin.com/rtzh6LAi
    • To say that losing 40,000 BTC was a devastating blow would be an understatement. It was an emotional and financial crisis that left me feeling hopeless and utterly lost. For weeks, I was trapped in a whirlwind of regret, second-guessing every decision that led me to that point. The fear that I would never be able to recover such a significant sum of cryptocurrency consumed me, and with each passing day, my despair deepened. I had all but given up on ever regaining my wealth. Then I happened to stumble onto Tech Cyber Force Recovery. In the beginning, I was hesitant. It looked too good to be true: could someone get back so much of their lost Bitcoin? After trying several different approaches and programs without success, I was hesitant to put my trust in another recovery agency. However, I changed my mind after reading Tech Cyber Force Recovery's stellar reviews and reputation. Reaching out to their team was a risk I made. They were courteous and professional from the first time I got in touch with them. I felt like I wasn't just another case to be solved by the staff at Tech Cyber Force Recovery; they truly cared about getting me my lost Bitcoin back. They listened carefully to my circumstances and guided me through each stage, giving me succinct and understandable explanations as I went. Their passion gave me new hope, and their openness instantly made me feel better. As the recovery process began, I still had my doubts, but I knew I had placed my trust in the right hands. The Tech Cyber Force Recovery team kept me informed and updated on their progress, ensuring I never felt in the dark. Despite the complexity of my case, they worked tirelessly, and their expertise became evident at every turn. The level of professionalism and attention to detail they demonstrated throughout the process was beyond impressive. And then, after what felt like an eternity of anticipation, the moment I had been waiting for arrived. I received the news that my 40,000 BTC had been successfully recovered. It was hard to believe at first—it felt like a dream. The weight that had been dragging me down for so long was suddenly lifted, and I could breathe again. The financial loss I had feared would define my future was no longer a reality. I can’t fully express the emotions I felt during that moment. It was a mix of relief, joy, and an overwhelming sense of gratitude. I had gone from a place of utter despair to a complete resurgence of wealth, both emotionally and financially. The Tech Cyber Force Recovery team didn’t just restore my Bitcoin—they restored my faith in the possibility of recovery and gave me back something far more valuable: peace of mind. I will urge anyone in this same predicament to.
