I am trying to put in a few placeholder/template items, blocks, etc, but whenever I put in an asset folder for the items, the game crashes and gives me this error report:

I've seen similar error reports while hunting for a fix, mainly the "caused by Non [a-z0-9_.-] character in namespace of location: [modnamehere]:sounds.json". But all these are on MacOS and their solution is not applicable to Windows 10...

I am using IntelliJ as my IDE, and if you want to scour through my garbage: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pfx5ahy4n7zz4q1/baseMod.zip?dl=0

That is literally your error, some of your jsons have a modid with a capital letter in them, your modid must be all lowercase.

It's sad how much time mods spend saying "x is no longer supported on this forum. Please update to a modern version of Minecraft to receive support".

A few tips:

You should post your debug.log instead of just the crashlog, the debug.log has more info in it, sometimes the crucial piece needed to figure out the problem

Get a github account. Now. (like, go to github.com right now, make an account, then come back to this window and continue) Use that instead of uploading zip files to dropbox. Sooo much better, and more people will look at your code to try and help. Not to mention using git itself for version control is awesome, you don't know what you're missing.

My best guess is that you created a json file that is broken, you should check out data generators in McJtys tutorial: https://wiki.mcjty.eu/modding/index.php?title=YouTube-Tutorials

*edit: annnd just noticed the modid baseMod has a capital. lol. Anyhow, that doesn't change any of my other advice. :)

I've gone thru all the references to my modid and put them all in lowercase, (basemod.java, registryhandler.java, en_us.json, base_item.json, and mods.toml) but im still getting the same error.

en_us.json, that's one, look through the resource for the rest. Look at every single file you've created, and fix it.

Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable.  If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME.  Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice.

Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked.

DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given.
