[1.14.4][Solved] Create recipes for machine with json

Recommended Posts

I have a machine that has an input fluidstack, an input itemstack and an output itemstack. Currently I can add recipes with the following code:

RecipeRegistrySteeping.addRecipe("recipe_name", new FluidStack(Fluids.WATER, 1000), new ItemStack(Items.STICK), new ItemStack(Items.DIAMOND));

Where water is the input fluid, the stick the input item and the diamond the output item.

I would like to be able to add and remove recipes like vanilla does this with crafting recipes and furnace recipes, through jsons. How can I implement this for my own machine? I want players to add their own recipes through data packs like how it is done in vanilla right now.

I took a look at the CookingRecipeSerializer class but I have no idea how to do it myself.

You'd have to write your own (de)serializers and deal with reading the resources yourself. There's likely a good chunk you don't have to rewrite, but there's a lot you will.

Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable.  If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME.  Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice.

Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked.

DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given.

its not so hard, this is how I created recipes for crusher:

Just implement own IRecipe<IInventory>,

Spoiler

public class CrusherRecipe implements IRecipe<IInventory> {
    public static final IRecipeType<CrusherRecipe> crushing = IRecipeType.register("crushing");

    private final IRecipeType<?> type;
    private final ResourceLocation id;
    final String group;
    final Ingredient ingredient;
    final ItemStack result;
    final float experience;
    final int crushingTime;

    CrusherRecipe(ResourceLocation resourceLocation, String group, Ingredient ingredient, ItemStack result, float experience, int crushingTime) {
        type = crushing;
        id = resourceLocation;
        this.group = group;
        this.ingredient = ingredient;
        this.result = result;
        this.experience = experience;
        this.crushingTime = crushingTime;
    }

    @Override
    public boolean matches(IInventory inv, @Nonnull World worldIn) {
        return this.ingredient.test(inv.getStackInSlot(0));
    }

    @Override
    @Nonnull
    public ItemStack getCraftingResult(@Nonnull IInventory inv) {
        return this.result.copy();
    }

    @Override
    public boolean canFit(int width, int height) {
        return true;
    }

    @Override
    @Nonnull
    public ItemStack getRecipeOutput() {
        return result;
    }

    @Override
    @Nonnull
    public ResourceLocation getId() {
        return id;
    }

    @Override
    @Nonnull
    public IRecipeSerializer<?> getSerializer() {
        return RecipeSubscriber.crusher;
    }

    @Override
    @Nonnull
    public IRecipeType<?> getType() {
        return type;
    }

    @Override
    @Nonnull
    public NonNullList<Ingredient> getIngredients() {
        NonNullList<Ingredient> nonnulllist = NonNullList.create();
        nonnulllist.add(this.ingredient);
        return nonnulllist;
    }

    @Override
    @Nonnull
    public ItemStack getIcon() {
        return new ItemStack(BlockSubscriber.crusher);
    }

I got everything working after I changed the IFactory interface in SteepingRecipeSerializer to public.

Now I try to add the recipes to my TileEntity but I get the following error: "Wrong 1st argument type. Found: 'crafting.IRecipeType<SteepingRecipe>', required: 'crafting.IRecipeType<T>'"

I tried changing it IRecipeType<T> but that doesn't work.

Spoiler

SteepingRecipe recipe = world.getRecipeManager().getRecipe(SteepingRecipe.steeping, this.getCapability(CapabilityItemHandler.ITEM_HANDLER_CAPABILITY), world).orElse(null);

First off you shouldn't use getCapability yourself. You should just be able to access the field in your TileEntity. Secondly the value getCapability returns is not applicable for this parameter. Use RecipeWrapper.

Might as well change this to RecipeWrapper as well.

Very helpful, Tieso2001, I probably won't end up using it (we'll see; a bunch of my machines shouldn't have exposed recipes, as it markedly impacts the intended balance).

Well the reason I want to be able to add recipes through jsons is for modpack makers to easily customise my mod and balance it themself.

Oh sure. I just mean that one of my machines facilitates the bar -> block type recipes (9 iron ingots to an iron block, four snowballs to snow, etc). The latter is so deeply entwined with the usual crafting system that it doesn't make sense to expose it, because of the reversible nature of those recipes. Instead its inputs and outputs are based solely on what items make sense.

If I change this:

public class SteepingRecipe implements IRecipe<IInventory> {

to:

public class SteepingRecipe extends RecipeWrapper {

than this class is no longer a recipe so it no longer works.

What is RecipeWrapper and how do I use it?

Still don't understand how to fix the issue with the first argument in getRecipe().

Post all of your current code. Preferably as a github repo. But on here works too.

Just pushed everything I currently have to here:

You need to do the first part I said. You need to have a RecipeWrapper field in your TileEntity to use in getRecipe because it requires an IInventory.

Okay let me explain what I have and what I don't understand.

You say that I need to add RecipeWrapper field to my TileEntity.

private RecipeWrapper recipeWrapper() {

    }

This needs to return RecipeWrapper.

I understand that I need RecipeWrapper in my TileEntity, because I can use that to pass the inventory to RecipeManager#getRecipe.

But I don't understand how to get RecipeWrapper into my TileEntity

Create a field, an instance, a variable. Then use its constructor to initialize it.

Like this, don't I have to define it then?

    • I think I've got it. Or at least a base to start working from. if (toolRef.getHarvestLevel(heldItems, ToolType.AXE, playerRef, blockState) <= 0) { event.setCanceled(true); } I've implemented it into my existing onBlockBreak event, because I was having issues to get it working for the HarvestCheck event. For a weird reason it wouldn't accept the BlockState reference inside the getHarvestLevel() method, when I was using it on HarvestCheck event. I'd still prefer any kind of reflection method though. Was way less complicated.
    • It's not only the tools. Let me explain. I remove some of the vanilla tools, primarily those made of wood, and then only need to check for tools in general. Ontop of that I've build some custom tools, which allows me to define what exactly they are allowed to harvest, and what not, in the specific custom tool class. Then I check against AIR(for having no item in my hands at all), entirely disallowing to harvest anything but for example, DIRT, CROPS, and stuff you'd need no tools to harvest in reality. Which leaves harvest with blocks in my hand open to be addressed. In the past I was just using the "setRequiresTool" reflection method, so I couldn't bypass my prohibition of harvesting anything with only AIR, or random blocks in my hand.
    • I have no idea what you are trying to do here. If you want to check for any tools, why do you have an if statement at all...?
