Posted October 22, 201312 yr Anyone know how much of an overhaul this new update is going to cause us modders? Seems like they have revamped a lot of stuff and look to release Friday if all goes well. Anyone have any insights onto how much of a pain this is going to be to upgrade to? I'm personally wondering what they have done to the terrain gen and such if its going to be a complete overhaul of the old system.
October 23, 201312 yr with more than half a million lines of code changed over 1,104 commits so goodbye mods
October 23, 201312 yr Mods will change yes, but that happens at every update. It is a biig change, but mods will adapt, and those that don't will die. Nothing to different. I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated. Consider supporting the team on Patreon
October 23, 201312 yr I am interested by the network and sound part of the update. I don't think terrain gen will change much. They just added a new world type and some biomes. Nothing special.
October 23, 201312 yr Author Well they are changing biome generation to be smarter so the code that draws the biomes out will surely be a bit different. They are also getting rid of blockID's so it will be interesting to see how that effects terrain generation. You usually were only able to use blocks less than 256 ID's for terrain generation, I assume that might change, for the better anyway.
October 24, 201312 yr Yeah... so when can we get an ETA on MinecraftForge for 1.7.1? The update is called "The update that changed the world".
October 25, 201312 yr Hmm, yeah, if there's a GitHub for Forge then we could fork it, suggest commits.
October 25, 201312 yr The 1.7 update for Forge itself is waiting for MCP to update. Which will take some time due to the massive internal changes to Minecraft. While that is happening, We are re-writing the entire build process to try and speed it up, and structure it better to Gradle: https://github.com/MinecraftForge/ForgeGradle Aside from that, mod will take a while to update, so there is no rush. Just stay tuned and you can see what we're doing. I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated. Consider supporting the team on Patreon
November 1, 201312 yr I think Mojang needs to make a contract with the forge people, and work together with them, so that whenever they update minecraft, the new version of forge is included in the launcher download, with no separate instalation needed. Then all mods can be directly plugged in with no hassle. How many people actually only plan vanilla anyway? The modding community is a vital part of the game, and I dont think minecraft would be nearly as popular without it. I think Mojang owes a large part of their success to the modding community and should work more closely with them.
November 1, 201312 yr The thing is, Mojang is trying to create their own, official, API so that Forge isn't needed for most mods. Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable. If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME. Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice. Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked. DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given.
November 2, 201311 yr Well perhaps they should hire the forge team to help them do it, since the forge team has managed to rewrite the code for it all a couple of times a month for a very long time now, and Mojang cant seem to figure it out
November 3, 201311 yr Actually they just hired Searge from the MCP team, hes moving to Sweeden in the spring to start working there Anyways I'm looking forward to the 1.7 update, this will make for a big improvement for us modders! I can't wait to dig into the new systems If you guys dont get it.. then well ya.. try harder...
