radfast Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Hi and thank you for this FAQ. It is very useful for modders to hear these future plans as we have to plan our own lives too. This all seems very positive for 1.8. Thinking about Galacticraft, we're not going to be ready to be looking at a 1.8 version until at least January anyhow, as we like to make a new planet (or other celestial body) with each major version update. My take on the Microsoft takeover of Mojang: Microsoft are buying the company, not the game. They could just have bought the ownership of the game and left the company alone. If you buy a company, it means you are buying the team of people who work there. So everything points to the game (PC/Mac version) continuing to be updated by the Mojang team in Sweden. Microsoft's stated interest is merchandising and increasing the expansion of Minecraft to other platforms. The conversions to other platforms are not coded by Mojang anyhow - the work is done by 4J Studios in Scotland - so it doesn't seem likely Mojang will switch to working on those.
sk8champ0 Posted February 9, 2015 Posted February 9, 2015 I dont think Microsoft would stop modding, because minecraft would be alot more boring without mods and less people would play it/ buy it = less money. Also I think they should hire LexManos since hes making minecraft a more enjoyable game and hopefully they will.
Jershy Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Microsoft may have some pressure to not demolish the modding community, most people who play minecraft have used mods and like them. Without mods mc would have lost its momentum much faster and died out already. They may do away with java mine-craft witch would suck. (although there might be a way to update through java independent of the original updates maybe?)
Bottersnike Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 With Microsoft having announced a new "plugin system" written in JSON and having said that Win10 edition will become the focus with the Java edition being left behind more and more, how do you think this will impact forge?
Ernio Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 With Microsoft having announced a new "plugin system" written in JSON and having said that Win10 edition will become the focus with the Java edition being left behind more and more, how do you think this will impact forge? Source? Such news would reach 1st page on google, can't really find it. Also - there is NO WAY that any plugin written in JSON can reach level of actual modding using actual programming language - that is unless they would design or use external scripting language such as Nashorn engine for Java (which is actually JS in Java). What it probably is about is support for JSON-based plugin-like elements such as blockstates we get now (probably custom entity models/animations in future). 1.7.10 is no longer supported by forge, you are on your own.
Bottersnike Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 Source? Such news would reach 1st page on google, can't really find it. It was in two Logdotzip videos. He went to talk with Microsoft about the future of Minecraft. They said that the plugin feature was going to come out in MC 1.11 at Minecon. Links: first then just the other day.
Is.M.L Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Microsoft definitely sped up Minecraft development. Will the Forge devs ever team up with Mojang now to make stuff like moddable Realms?
Anyone700 Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 (edited) Quote WHAT’S NEXT? We’ll be continuing to develop Add-Ons over the next year as we work towards a fully customizable Minecraft. In the coming months we’ll be working on unlocking behavior change for blocks, and even more ways you can modify gameplay. Let us know what you think about the Add-Ons system and what you’d like to see at feedback.minecraft.net. Addons are a happening thing. I believe it is important for Lex to address this. https://minecraft.net/en-us/addons/faq/ Edited March 19, 2018 by Anyone700

"Add-Ons will work on any platform that runs the Windows 10 Edition Beta or Pocket Edition" So it's the Bedrock versions only. 1 Don't PM me with questions. They will be ignored! Make a thread on the appropriate board for support. 1.12 -> 1.13 primer by williewillus. 1.7.10 and older versions of Minecraft are no longer supported due to it's age! Anyone700 Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 (edited) No, Add-Ons are coming to "All editions of minecraft". This is really something that Lex should address or at-least acknowledge. "Now available on mobile, console and Windows 10: Add-Ons are the first step on our journey towards bringing even greater levels of customisation to all editions of Minecraft." https://minecraft.net/en-us/addons/ Edited April 25, 2018 by Anyone700 Clarification
LexManos Posted April 25, 2018 Posted April 25, 2018 They are not coming to the Java version. Atleast not for the forseeable future. There, acknowledged. 1 I do Forge for free, however the servers to run it arn't free, so anything is appreciated. Consider supporting the team on Patreon
